Mountain Dew is a well-like soda because it is mild in flavor and easy to drink, and we’ve found it to be an unexpectedly wonderful mixer for cocktails! There are a lot of variations to Mountain Dew, including diet options and different flavors that the company introduces from time to time, but for today, we are just going to focus on the original and all the great cocktails we’ve found to go along with it.
Pick up some classic Mountain Dew or Diet Mountain Dew if you want to cut some sugar, and try your hand at one of these Mountain Dew cocktail recipes!
Lemon-Lime Soda vs. Mountain Dew
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of our favorite Mountain Dew cocktail recipes, it is important first to make the distinction that Mountain Dew is not technically lemon-lime soda.
Often, you will see recipes call for lemon-lime soda, and though Moutain Dew is a lime color and has a citrus, it is not lemon-lime soda.
In these instances, when you think of lemon-lime soda, you should think of Sprite or 7-Up. Mountain Dew is a citrus soda!
9+ Mountain Dew Cocktail Recipes
Now that we have cleared that up, here are our nine favorite Mountain Dew cocktails!
1. Rum and Dew
This Rum and Dew recipe by The Spruce Eats is both fun and simple. It is a mild and sweet cocktail that contains spiced rum, orange juice, and Mountain Dew. When it comes to spiced rum, we recommend Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum for its affordability and excellent flavor profile.
Pour all of your ingredients into a highball glass over ice and stir. It has a delicious tangy citrus flavor, perfect for weekend brunch or hot summer days.
2. Mountain Dew Me
Complete with a funny name, the Mountain Dew Me by Tipsy Bartender is one sensational drink that will be a hit every time.
To make it, combine melon liquor, triple sec, pineapple juice, and Mountain Dew in a tall glass filled with ice. Stir to mix the fruity flavors and garnish with an orange slice and cherry to finish it off.
Don’t forget to make all the dirty jokes that come along with the name; it’s mandatory!
3. Sour Apple Mountain Dew Cocktail
The Sour Apple Moutain Dew Cocktail recipe by Laura the Gastronaut has a fun lime green color you won’t miss! It’s a delicious blend of pineapple juice, vodka, Dekuyper sour apple schnapps, lime juice, and Mountain Dew that hits all the right notes.
There is a trick to perfecting this recipe, though. Shake all of the ingredients except the Mountain Dew in a cocktail shaker with ice cubes, and then add the Moutain Dew to the glass at the very end. This way, the flavors get well blended, but you don’t lose the bubbles of the Mountian Dew.
Because of the color, this recipe is popular for themed events such as a Halloween party, but we think it is delicious any time!
4. Mountain Dew Drop-In
by Drizly
If you are looking for a Mountain Dew cocktail with some action, the Mountain Dew Drop-In by Drizly is for you. This cocktail doesn’t actually have any Mountain Dew in it, but instead, the ingredients combine to mimic the flavor of Mountain Dew in some sorcery that we don’t quite understand but absolutely love.
To make this, fill a pint glass with half-light beer and half lemon-lime soda (like Sprite!) while leaving about an inch of room. Then, fill a shot glass with Midori melon liqueur. From there, drop the entire shot glass into the pint glass and start drinking immediately.
Not only will people be amazed at the taste, but it also puts on a show! Just ensure that you don’t use a full-bodied beer like Budweiser beer or craft beer because it won’t create the Mountain Dew effect. Instead, opt for Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, or something similar.
5. Mountain Cider High
This Mountain Cider High recipe by Mix That Drink has Mountain Dew but actually more strongly tastes like an apple. It consists of equal parts vodka, apple cider (or substitute with apple juice), and Mountain Dew for a combination that feels like fall but works all year long. This is a simple Mountain Dew cocktail that you’ll want over and over again.
6. Copycat Red Lobster Dew Garita
You may not see a Mountain Dew cocktail on the menu often, but Red Lobster has featured their Dew Garita, and it is always a hit. This Copycat Red Lobster Dew Garita recipe by CopyKat Recipes is how you can make it at home!
You’ll need tequila, melon liqueur, sour mix or margarita mix, triple sec, freshly squeezed lime juice, and Moutain Dew. Rim your glass with sugar and add ice. Then, shake up all the ingredients except the Mountain Dew and pour them into your rimmed glass.
Add the Moutain Dew on top for a cocktail with complex flavors you’ll love. Never settle for a plan margarita again!
7. Voodoo Dew
The Voodoo Dew is another recipe from Mix That Drink that is simple and delicious. Combine Bacardi rum and Moutain Dew over ice in a large glass and stir. That’s all there is to it. This recipe is also perfect for making big batches at parties. It is a crowd-pleaser and quite affordable!
8. Peachy Dew Cocktail
Tasty Kitchen’s Peachy Dew Cocktail recipe is sweet and low in alcohol for when you just want to relax. It combines peach schnapps, a low alcohol spirit, with Mountain Dew for a mild yet refreshing Mountain Dew cocktail. Try it with strawberry schnapps instead for another great taste.
