What is Paddy’s Irish Whiskey?

Paddy’s Old Irish Whiskey could be argued by some as one of the best Irish whiskey brands on the market. However, did you know it wasn’t always called Paddy’s? The original name was Cork Distilling Company Map Of Ireland Old Irish Whiskey, though after salesman Patrick O’Flaherty (aka Paddy!) spent 4 decades selling the whiskey by going pub-to-pub with free rounds of samples, the company decided to change the name to honor him. Other than the name, there has been one other change. A bit back, Cork Distilleries sold Paddy’s brand to Sazerac, though the distillery still produces the whiskey.

Speaking of, even after the name change and the transfer of ownership, the whiskey has never changed. It is still triple distilled in a pot-still and aged in oaken casks in County Cork, Ireland. It has a smooth, balanced, and approachable taste that comes from the perfect blend of grain and the single malt combined with the unique distilling process. It’s got notes of vanilla, honey, and spice on the nose, light oak and nuts on the palate, and a mellow, sweet finish on the back end.

We love this one and the many awards it has won show that a lot of others agree! Among those is their award for the Best Blended Irish Whiskey at the International Spirit Competition in 2020 and their gold medal at the International Whisky Competition in 2020.

Fun fact: Though we are talking about a bottle of alcohol here, technically, Paddys Irish Whiskey is a horse with, and we quote, “a proven record of siring both class and high-end trainability with champions in versatility ranch horse, reined cow horse, cutting, reining, calf roping, and team roping. His daughters have produced more than $2,600,000, including an NRHA Open Futurity Champion and multiple AQHA and NRCHA World Championships.” Paddy’s name has to be lucky because, come ‘on– an award-winning whiskey and an award-winning horse? It’s a match made in heaven!

Nutrition Facts

Paddys is 40% alcohol by volume, or 80 proof– right on par with other whiskeys and scotch. In terms of calories, Paddy’s won’t break your diet either, coming in at about 65 calories per ounce. It also has no carbs, fat, or protein.
