First, The Origins of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is relatively new on the whiskey scene. Skrewball has only been around since about 2018, so there are still masses of people out there who might not know about this peanuty bottled elixir.

It all started in a restaurant in Ocean Beach, which is a neighborhood of San Diego, California. Co-founder Steven Yeng was a refugee from Cambodia who had this restaurant and bar in Ocean Beach.

The story goes that he was fascinated by how peanut butter tasted, which was a novel food for him at the time.

He decided to play around, fusing peanut butter-flavored whiskey and the craft of mixology. The result was a cocktail, mixing peanut butter and Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, the location soon became famous for.

Steve approached his wife Brittany, who happened to be a chemist and a lawyer, and brought her in on the idea of how they could get this fabulous flavor bottled to share with the world. They tasted and tested, eventually developing a whiskey that tasted just like the peanut butter shot but maintained the character of the whiskey.

They bottled it, and the family brand grew. Today, Skrewball stands as the OG peanut butter whiskey, as other brands have infiltrated the market.

How Does It Taste?

If you put aside the screwball idea of mixing peanut butter and whiskey for a minute, you might be able to conceptualize why this stuff actually tastes so good.

Peanut butter is smooth, nutty, and a little salty. Whiskey sometimes offers earthy flavors, hints of fruit and spice, oak, and maybe a hint of vanilla. We can totally see how one could mix those flavors and create something wonderful, which is exactly what the creators of Skrewbaall Peanut Butter Whiskey did.

While the result is sweet, possibly too sweet for some, it’s also very smooth with a noticeable taste of caramel. It’s made with natural flavors, including real peanuts, so the flavor is authentic and not chemical or overly done in any way. It’s actually quite wonderful, delicious stuff that we have fun drinking, especially with our screwball friends.
